Children of the Anaconda

PROMEA RONIN BAKEBO (The Children of the Anaconda)

A community-based film production facilitated by reflexive films and Village Earth. Paromea Ronin Bakebo (Shibibo for "the Children of the Anaconda) illustrates the visions and hopes of the Shipibo people of Peru's Amazon Basin, who struggle to protect their way of life and natural resources against the threats from outside intersts encroaching upon their traditional lands. "REZONOMICS"

"Rezonomics" is an exploration of the eclectic and inventive survival strategies of the residents of one of the most impoverished and marginalized places in the United States, the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in rural South Dakota. In 2006, the film was presented at DOCSDF, Mexico City's Documentary Film Festival.

SPEED OF DARKNESS-VELOCITY OF LIGHT

Animation and film for the Theater. An extravaganza of acting, dancing, and animation that comes together to express the destruction of the environment and the exploitation of cultures. A philosophical trip featuring fragments of Jorge Luis Borges, Micheal Foucault, Simone de Beauvoir and others.

 

 

LOS POBRES (Promotional Film)
2005 - DVD, 30Min

"Los Pobres" is a program that began more than 20 years ago with the aim at helping migrant farmer workers in southern Colorado. Currently run by the organization of Sister Nancy Crafton and various other members of the community, the program seeks to aid migrant laborers with food, clothing, shelter, legal and medical assistance in one of the most segregated regions of Colorado.

 

 

OJOS QUE NO VEN: LA SFIGA DI CABEZÓN
2005 - DVD, 37Min, Spanish, Italian, German, Lakota with English Subtitles

Part two of the trilogy Ojos Que No Ven (eyes that don’t see). This is the story of a depressed German immigrant, nauseated by the idea of the superstructure represented by the American dream. Dealing with themes of phenomenology, alienation and freedom.

Through the voices of the residents of the Pine Ridge Reservation, Pine Ridge:
Session One explores life and community-based development in one of the poorest counties in the United States. Through grassroots community action, traditional families called "tiyospayes" are pursuing their vision to reclaim, restore, and utilize their remaining land-base, reversing a 100 year-old policy of the U.S. Government to make their lands accessible to non-tribal farmers and ranchers.

For this project our client (Opera Fort Collins) wanted to extend the creative reach of the classic opera "Madame Butterfly" by incorporating film and animation into the backdrop.
